Red Hook Studios surprised Darkest Dungeon fans by announcing new DLC for the first game years after a sequel was already released. It's titled The Fire's Edge and will be out in August.
Darkest Dungeon exited early access in 2016 and last received DLC in May 2020. In the six years since, Red Hook launched a sequel that builds on the strong foundations of the first game and has supported it with DLC. That's why it's a bit surprising to see the developers return to the game that started it all.
The decision makes a little more sense when you learn that The Fire's Edge will bring some Darkest Dungeon 2 concepts into its predecessor. Namely, The Duelist and The Runaway heroes from the sequel will make their way back to the original. The Duelist benefits from moving around the party and switching between aggressive and defensive stances, while The Runaway will have access to the unique Burn damage type.
